Putting God First

Academy Award-winning actor Denzel Washington delivered the commencement speech at Dillard University told the college graduates to put God first in everything they do.

He spoke and shared 4 main life success tips and here they are.

1. Put God First

Recognize that it’s the grace and power of God that help you achieve your grandiose dreams and fulfill your heart’s desires. Instead of trying to control, be worrisome, or fearful, trust God and its energy within you and work from this understanding, awareness, and knowledge and that you are protected, guided and well looked after.

2. Fail Big

He talks about the importance of following your passion and taking chances professionally.

Many people have amazing ideas and dreams but they are too afraid to fail and get hurt. But achieving your goals and fulfilling your heart’s desires require thinking outside the box and going beyond your comfort zone.

He also stresses the importance of setting goals – life goals.

It’s critical to break them down into smaller goals, such as yearly, monthly, and daily goals.

And some of the most vital elements of achieving any goals are to apply discipline and consistency, be willing to work hard, and be strategic.

“Just because you are doing a lot more doesn't mean you are getting a lot more done…don’t confuse movement with progress…”

3 You never see a U-Haul behind a hearse

No matter how much money you make you cannot take it with you.

It’s not how much you have but it’s what you do with what you have.

The most selfish thing you can do in this world is to help someone else.

Why is it selfish? When you help others, you receive incredible gratification, good feelings, and joy. The truth success is being in joy.

4. Being Grateful and Daily Thanksgiving.

“Thank you for grace.

Thank you for mercy.

Thank you for understanding

Thank you for wisdom.

Thank you for parents.

Thank you for love.

Thank you for kindness.

Thank you for humility.

Thank you for peace.

Thank you for prosperity.

Say thank you in advance for what is already yours.

True desire in the heart for anything good is god’s proof to you sent beforehand to indicate that it’s yours already.

Anything you want good, you can have

So claim it.”

When you receive what you want, he suggests you give back in your own way. With the recourses you have you help others, pulling someone else up with your blessings.

“Each one, reach one. Each one, teach one. Until all are taught.”

Don't just aspire to make a living aspire to make a difference!
