I recently came across an amazing book called Effortless Healing by Dr. Joseph Mercola and he talks about 9 Key Healing Principles to “sidestep illness, shed excess weight, and help your body fix itself.” It’s a great read!.

He talks about our body was designed to be healthy without needing a drug. “Give it what it needs to thrive, and it will typically regenerate itself without any outside interventions. This innate restorative tendency is what I call ‘Effortless Healing.’ “

The 9 Key Principles of Effortless Healing

Healing Principle 1: Drink Pure Water.

This is sooo simple, but the most important thing we can do to heal our body and optimize our health. About 2/3 of our body is made up of water. Water flashes away toxic wastes in our body. “Water also aids in energy production and keeps your joins lubricated.” Did you know you can “Go without food, and you’ll last several weeks. Go without water, however, and you’ll die within a few days.”?

Healing Principle 2: Eat Your Veggies (Four Effortless Ways to Eat More)

How much veggies do you eat on a daily basis? Check out Dr. Mercola’s food pyramid HERE.

He talks about the importance of eating lots of raw, organic veggies and also healthy fats such as avocados, coconuts, raw nuts, live oil, and butter.

Why? Optimizing your diet to improve your insulin and leptin sensitivity will improve nearly every disease!

Healing Principles 3: Burn Fat for Fuel

He talks about how our body prefers burning fat as our primary source of fuel to burning sugar/glucose as our primary source of fuel. He also talks about the calories you eat, minus the calories you burn dieting rule is dead wrong!

Healing Principles 4: Exercise Less and Gain More Benefits

He recommends high intensity exercise with the total length of 21 minutes daily which he talks about in the book.

Healing Principle 5: Enjoy the Sun and Get Your Vitamin D.

He talks bout the importance of vitamin D and how it can improve and maintain our health. Did you know nearly 3000 genes are influenced by Vitamin D levels? I’m going outside at this minute to receive some blessings from the Sun!

Healing Principle 6: Let Your Gut Flourish

Did you know that your gut produces more serotonin than your brain? Your gut is your second brain!!! He recommends that you eat fermented foods daily. (Natto, Miso, Sauerkraut, and Kim chi can be found at almost any supermarket…especially here in Hawaii.)

Healing Principle 7: Clean Your Brain with Sleep

In this section, he talks about ways to optimize your brain. Yes, sleep is so important! There is no question about it. Getting a plenty of sleep will transform your mood, brain, your overall health, and energy level!!

Healing Principle 8: Go Barefoot – and Other Ways to Stay Grounded.

I’ll be walking around barefoot outside today for sure! He talks about the earth is electric and so we are! By walking barefoot we can get charged by the earth. This is so cool! He also talks about the importance of physical touch. Have you hugged your children today?

Healing Principles 9: Avoid These Six ‘Health Foods.”

I was a bit surprised after discovering this principle. He talks about “health foods” to avoid, which include: 1) whole grains like brown rice 2) Natural sweeteners such as agave 3) Unfermented soy products 4) Vegetable oil 5) Most types of fish 6) yogurt with sugar.
